Dominio de Tares in the heart of El Bierzo

Vineyards in El Bierzo / Juan Manuel Sanz – ICEX

Dominio de TaresCepas Viejas has always been one of my go-to favorite wines – although I admit that I have a lot of these as the excellent wine selection in Spain makes it so hard to choose…

In any case, I have always loved this wine, as well as the region and grape variety that it represents. Red wines made with Mencía grapes from DO Bierzo tend to be wonderfully fruit-forward, bold, earthy, mineral and elegant all at the same time, and there is no doubt that acclaimed area winery Dominio de Tares has mastered this style throughout its line of four red wines (“the young Baltos, Cepas Viejas, the extensively aged Bembibre and the expressive P3“).

Additionally, this Bierzo winery has recently expanded its repertoire, releasing a new young wine made from local white Godello grapes (the winery has one other white wine, a Godello that has been barrel-aged for six-months).
