The Joys of Chacolí!

The port at San Sebastián / Ignacio Muñoz-Seca – ICEX

I just booked train tickets for San Sebastian, the 2016 European Capital of Culture and also one of my favorite places to visit when I’m in the mood for incredible pintxos in a beautiful city by the sea.

Of course eating the incredible tapas that this Basque city is famous for is made all the more enjoyable when accompanied by a glass or (better yet) a bottle of crisp chacolí (txakoli), the white wine par excellence from the Basque Country.

DO Chacolí de Guetaria-Getariako Txakolina-Txakoli de GetariaChacolí de Bizkaia-Bizkaiko Txakolina-Txakoli de Bizkaia and Chacolí de Álava-Arabako Txakolina-Txakoli de Álava are the three denominations of origin that make these wines.

Learn more about the special characteristics of each of these regions, as well as the grape varieties and different types of chacolí wines in Basking in Basque Wines, on Foods and Wines from Spain.
