Watermelon relief!

Spanish watermelon goodness / Juan Manuel Sanz – ICEX

There’s a fruit stand that sets up every summer at the end of my street in Madrid selling only Spanish watermelons.

It’s truly a sight to see. Every morning when I walk past, the basketball-sized watermelons are piled high on either side of the fruit vendor — seeded on one side and seedless on the other — his head barely visible behind the stacks and stacks of produce.

As the day goes by, the stack slowly shrinks, until by evening there’s barely anything left. The dozens and dozens of watermelons, if not more, are now giving sweet relief to the neighbors (and myself) with their juicy freshness.
