Hearty food for cool San Isidro

A hearty plate of callos at La Taberna de Pedro / Fernando Madariaga – ICEX

The San Isidro festivities are upon us once again, with the official date to celebrate Madrid‘s patron saint falling on this Sunday, May 15th.

As this year’s San Isidro celebration gets underway, it seems that this patron saint might be smiling down on those who like to mark this very madrileño event by enjoying a taste of some of this city’s most beloved and traditional gastronomy.

I say this because the weather has been cold and clammy in Madrid all week (unseasonably so for May), meaning that it is still the perfect moment to tuck into a wonderful and warming cocido madrileño

Another local favorite that is best saved for cool temperatures is callos madrileños (Madrid-style tripe).
