Bacchus and “Gastro Bacchus”

More than 100 expert wine tasters will be in Madrid for Bacchus 2016 / Amador Toril – ICEX

The 2016 edition of the Concurso Internacional de Vinos Bacchus (Bacchus International Wine Competition) gets underway today in the Spanish capital.

The competition, which will go all weekend until March 21st, is significant in that it brings together a star panel of more than 100 international wine experts – including ten Masters of Wine – to judge more than 1,500 wines from all over the globe.

Another reason why the Bacchus competition is a big deal, is that its the only international wine competition in Spain to be recognized by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).

Now, although the majority of us probably won’t get the chance to taste 1,500 different wines this weekend, we can still raise our glasses to this important international wine event hosted in Spain at parallel wine event “Gastro Bacchus“.

From March 16th through 21st, ten establishments in the historic Madrid neighborhood Barrio de las Letras will each be offering a special tapa matched with a Spanish wine, for the price of around 4 euros.
