We’ve been talking a lot about Spanish wine this week, something that is not surprising given the time of year!
Vendimia, or the grape harvest, has come early this year, thanks to a hot summer and other climate factors. While some cooler regions of Spain have yet to start harvesting, most concur with the fact that the harvest will be early this year, with areas like DOCa Rioja predicting at least a ten-day advance with respect to 2014, which will put the harvest sometime during the second half of September.
On the other hand, in other areas like DO Vinos de Madrid, the harvest has already come to a close.
In any case, the word is that this year’s crop is going to be an excellent one overall, so make a note to yourself to keep an eye out for the 2015 vintages of the future!
