Nerua Premiers on “Best in World” Ranking

The Spanish restaurant world has obviously been abuzz the past several days ever since the announcement of El Celler de Can Roca as the “World’s Best Restaurant”.

But as we mentioned in this news item on Foods and Wines from Spain, Can Roca was only one of a total of ten Spanish restaurants to make this year’s prestigious list, which is published annually by Restaurant magazine.

This feat was undoubtedly particularly significant to Spanish chef Josean Alija, whose Nerua restaurant in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao made the list for the very first time this year, coming in at 68th in the ranking.

To honor the achievements of this young chef, who has made a name for his one-Michelin star restaurant as a bastion of avant garde cuisine centered on locally sourced, quality products –with a particular emphasis on his region’s gastronomic traditions– I thought we could feature both Josean Alija and Nerua in today’s post.
