The Andalusia town of Jerez de la Frontera is gearing up to host the sixth edition of the Copa de Jerez which will take place tomorrow in this picturesque town that is, among other things, famous around the world for being at the heart of Spanish Sherry country.
This Copa de Jerez attracts hundreds of wine and food experts and journalists from around the world, eager to become first-hand witnesses of this singular gastronomic wine and food pairing event.
The competition consists of 8 pairs of chefs-sommeliers from world-class restaurants from around the globe (Spain, the UK, the USA, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Russia and Denmark), each challenged to create a three-course menu paired with three Jerez wines chosen from the broad range of dry (Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Palo Cortado), semi-sweet (Cream, Medium and Pale Cream), or sweet (Moscatel and Pedro Jimenez) Sherries from Consejo Regulador de los Denominaciones de Origen Jerez y Manzanilla (Regulatory Board of the Designations of Origin Jerez/Sherry and Manzanilla).
In addition to the competition a parallel Sherry wine salon expects to welcome some 300 professional visitors.
