This is just a shout out for one of our own. Former ICEX Training Program in Spanish Gastronomy chef Jeffrey Weiss, whose book Charcutería, The Soul of Spain, has been nominated for a 2015 James Beard Foundation Book Award.
Weiss, who participated in the 2009 edition of the ICEX program, returned to Spain in 2013 to work on his book (Surrey Books, 2014), a passionate exploration of the world of Spanish food curing and preserving traditions, including regional butchering and sausage making techniques, recipes from top-notch Spanish chefs, cooking tips, incredible photographs, delightful illustrations and a clear love for this country and its cuisine.
Interestingly, Weiss’ book has been nominated along with another publication dedicated to the world of Spanish gastronomy: Sherry: A Modern Guide to the Wine World’s Best-Kept Secret, by Talia Baiocchi.
The winner will be announced on April 24th at the annual gala dinner in New York City.
