Spanish ham is widely exported! / ICEX

I spent the holidays with my family in the United States and, as ever, was sad that U.S. customs regulations prohibit me from sticking an entire leg of Spanish ham in my suitcase. Even so, this fact did not stop me from sharing a a taste of Spain’s wonderful Ibérico pork products with my family on this festive occasion.

In fact, it’s getting easier and easier to find these products in the United States and other markets. On the one hand, more and more specialty gourmet food shops and delicatessens are now carrying Spanish ham, chorizo and other products; and on the other, there are a variety of different options where you can buy Spanish quality pork products online and have it shipped directly to your friend or loved one’s door all over the world.

On this trip I chose to do the latter, so that these gifts for my family would be waiting for me when I arrived. This time around I decided to use online ham sellers, HamLovers.com, who I had the pleasure of getting to know this year. Based in Barcelona, this company sells their products all over the world, and has a website available in nearly two-dozen languages. In addition to ham, I also bought chorizo, lomo, salchichón and anchovy-stuffed Spanish olives.

On other occasions I have turned to vendors like La Tienda, a US company that sells a huge variety of Spanish foods and gourmet products, including this country’s famous hams. Of course these two are just  a couple of the many different online sites where you can order Spanish products abroad – and trust me, your family and friends will thank you for it!
