We talk a lot about Spanish Cava on this site and on Foods and Wines from Spain. And why not? This fine sparkling wine is unrivaled in many circles and enjoys acclaim both on a national and international scale. And with reason. Cava is as top quality as it is varied in terms of styles and grape varieties, although the most famous grape blend far and away for Spanish Cava is made up of what are known as the triumvirate of Cava: Xarel’lo, Macabeo and Parellada.
Another curiosity about Cava is that, while the vast majority of it is produced just outside of Barcelona in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, it is the only Spanish wine denomination that is not linked to just one geographical area. In fact, apart from Catalonia, Cava is produced in several different Spanish regions including Valencia, Extremadura and La Rioja.
There is no better time than the holiday season to learn as much as you can about this incredible Spanish wine. And what better way to learn than by tasting it!
