Today marks the start of a long weekend in Spain, given that both Saturday and Monday are national holidays (Spanish Constitution Day and the Inmaculada Concepción Saint’s Day, respectively). And while it’s nice to enjoy the crisp winter air while starting on your holiday shopping, it’s also just as nice (if not nicer) to hightail it down to the warm and sunny Canary Islands.

Just a couple of hours from the Spanish capital by plane, a three-day weekend is plenty of time to soak up some sun and enjoy the beauty, culture and gastronomy of the Canary Islands. Of course you won’t be able to enjoy them all on one trip, so, this time, why not visit the island of La Palma.

The lush forest landscape and volcanic vestiges of this island are as stunning as its gastronomy is tasty.

But don’t take my word for it, read about what you can do, eat and see with 36 Hours on the Canary Island of La Palma, on Foods and Wines from Spain.
