Wild mushrooms are the focus of Soria Gastronomica / Rafael Vargas and Marti Llorens – ICEX

Well, really, pick any month in Spain and you will find it is packed with tapas routes, culinary competitions, food fairs and celebrations of different products, cuisines and gastronomic traditions. But the fall is particularly busy with food-centric happenings, as things get into gear again after the summer holidays and people are inspired with a “back-to-school” kind of spring in their gastronomic step.

October is when things really get underway, with three important gastronomic events that food professionals and food lovers should mark on their calendars.

The first (October 5th – 8th) just wrapped up this week. San Sebastian Gastronomika is one of the top culinary conferences in Spain, where some of this country’s most acclaimed chefs (including Dani García, Andoni Luis Aduriz, Ángel León, Ramón Freixa, Eneko Atxa, Pepe Solla, Josean Alija, Frances Paniego, Jesús Sánchez, Juan Mari and Elena Arzak, Joan Roca, Martín Berasategui, Quique Dacosta, Pedro Subijana, Marcos Morán, Paco Pérez, Ricard Camarena, Carme Ruscalleda, and others), flock annually to share the latest news in culinary discoveries, techniques, inventions and experiences.

Then comes Millesime Madrid, which has been going on for the past couple of days in the Spanish capital and ends today, October 10th. Even so, there is still time to enjoy this elite food event, which is lasting one extra day this year (today) in order to let ordinary (non-industry) folk attend this event, which is a showcase for top Spanish chefs, avant-garde cuisine, culinary workshops, wines and other beverages and more.

Then from October 27-29th, head to the city of Soria in Castile-Leon for the fascinating Soria Gastronomica International Mycology Conference. On every two years in this city, this conference is one of my favorites, featuring talks and round-table discussions by chefs, biologists, mycologists and other experts on the world of wild mushrooms. Open to interested parties, one need only visit the official website to register.
