One of the things that I never get tired of in Spain is this country’s huge diversity. Whether you’re talking about scenery, landscape, culture, traditions, climate or – of course – gastronomy, Spain seems to have it all. This means that even after nearly two decades in this country, I am still in a constant state of wonder and discovery in terms of all the things there are to see, do and eat here.

One of the next stops on my list is the Basque city of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Not only is this city a leafy pedestrian haven, but it’s also home to a wide range of famed tapas bars boasting both traditional and innovative fare.

An easy train ride from Madrid, a stop on the way to the northern Basque coast, or a place to stop and stay for awhile, Vitoria-Gasteiz is The Unknown Basque Gastronomic Capital.
