Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday in Spain and the following Sunday in the USA, Australia, Austria, Germany, Canada and Italy, among other places; while in the UK and Ireland, this day was celebrated at the end of March.

Whatever the date, this holiday is the perfect excuse to show all the mothers in your life just how much you care, and what better way to do it than with some wonderful Spanish chocolates?

Chocolate is a Spanish gastronomic specialty, with an array of different Spanish gourmet companies dedicated to creating wonderful variations of this sweet, many of which are available thanks to worldwide imports of these Spanish products.

Alicante company Chocolates Valor is perhaps Spain’s leading chocolate maker, selling a wide variety of traditional chocolates in different formats. Valor is present in all of Spain through 24 franchised and 31 company-owned chocolate shops. Additionally, the company exports worldwide, with 50% of total exports going to the US.

Additionally, the company’s chocolate museum (located in the town of Villajoyosa, Alicante) receives some 70,000 visitors a year

For a more innovative option, look to Chocolate Orgániko, which was founded just a few years ago in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, by an intrepid young couple. This all-organic operation exports around 80% of its sales.

Whatever chocolates you decide on for this big day, just remember to make it a special occasion for the special mother(s) in your life!
