The artichoke is one of my absolute favorite things in the world. Really.
I love this vegetable? plant? flower? and find that it makes almost any savory recipe, soup or salad, that much better.
Apparently I’ve come to the right place to celebrate my love for artichokes, as Spain is the world’s second largest producer and top exporter of this heavenly foodstuff.
In addition to eating as many artichokes as I can – sometimes plain, with only a squeeze of lemon, or prepared in an elaborate recipe like this one: Creamy artichoke rice with clams and Manchego cheese (Arroz cremoso de alcachofa, almejas y queso Manchego) – I am also considering taking a trip up to Castellón (Valencia) to attend the Benicarló Artichoke Festival, which will be going on there through March 2nd in celebration of the quality Alcachofa de Benicarló PDO protected product.
Hope to see you there!
