Green, red, yellow or pink… no matter the color or variety, apples are some of my very favorite things to eat in the winter.
Starting in late summer and spanning through the first months of the New Year, apple season fills pantries with crunchy, sweet, tart and delicious options for both sweet and savory recipes – not to mention the fact that there are few things better than enjoying a fresh apple all by itself.
Spain produces over a half million tons of apples a year, making it a force on the world market, both in terms of production and exports.
In addition to quantity, this country produces a wide range of excellent apple varieties including the famed PDO Manzana Reineta de Bierzo apples from Castile-Leon and the Manzanas de Girona from Catalonia.
So if you haven’t tried Spain’s wonderful apples yet, then get crunching!
